  • Being this year’s Graduate Apprentice has been a whirlwind. I am already in my second placement at DBK after spending an amazing four months at IDEX consulting and things have never been better. During my first four months in recruitment I valued every minute, learning the ins and outs of what it takes to work in marketing and sales whilst also providing excellent service for our clients. Having never considered a career in recruitment, it was a great way to get a taster of working life in that field without the commitment, allowing me to change my initial conceptions of working in a recruitment environment. Although at University I studied Law, never did I think I would get a chance to work in a project management or construction environment but surprisingly thanks to the Graduate Apprentice scheme I have a chance to explore a completely different sector at DBK. These […]

  • What was your first job? Don’t laugh… Librarian! For anyone who knows I’m not really one to speak in hushed tones (!) but I have always loved literature and making books fun for children. Did you ever imagine to be undertaking your current role, if not, what did you want to be doing? Not at all! I had never considered a career in recruitment whilst at university and I didn’t really think I was a natural leader so being a Divisional Leader with Katie Bard honestly couldn’t have been further from what I thought I would be doing. However, I did always know that I wanted to work for a driven and meritocratic business, so this company is absolutely the environment where I imagined I’d be working! Which parts of your role are the most and enjoyable and which parts are the most challenging? The reason that recruitment appealed to […]

  • What was your first job? A hairdresser’s assistant at 13! Did you ever imagine to be undertaking your current role, if not, what did you want to be doing? I did an undergrad course in Business Property Management and therefore knew, at some point, I would be working within the world of surveying. My initial role however was in Property and Asset Management until 2 years ago when I moved into the Land and Development Agency team, which is a role I did not expect to go into and is one which I extremely enjoy and couldn’t imagine not doing now! Which parts of your role are the most enjoyable and which parts are the most challenging? The most enjoyable parts of my role are networking, attending client events and meeting new people all of the time. The most challenging part, although still enjoyable, is working with a diverse group […]

  • What was your first job? Working in the Villa Village, the club shop at Villa Park. Remuneration extended to my season ticket, a King Size Snickers and the Sports Argus on the way home, which at the time constituted all of my basic needs. Did you ever imagine to be undertaking your current role, if not, what did you want to be doing? After a brief, early notion that I would become a nun (early influences: Catholicism, the Sound of Music), my teenage geography nerd dreamed of working at the US Geological Survey or writing for National Geographic. My more practical side sought out a university scholarship working in audit at Arthur Andersen, which taught me a phenomenal amount, including that to be happy, I needed to find a career path that I was truly passionate about. I went back to what I loved: geography. I can still remember my […]

  • What was your first job? Apart from babysitting, my first job was as an admin assistant for a Financial Advisory firm. Did you ever imagine to be undertaking your current role, if not, what did you want to be doing? When I first started working I didn’t know my specific role existed, but I was always interested in banking & finance. I wanted to travel and when I was younger I envisaged this would be visiting different countries on a regular basis, however I achieved this in a different respect by working in Germany for a number of years. Which parts of your role are the most and enjoyable and which parts are the most challenging? I really enjoy the people management part of my role, helping staff to develop and seeing them flourish in their careers. On the flip side, this can also be the most challenging part of […]
