As well as recognising one stand out candidate as this year’s BYPY 2017, this year’s Legal category highlights exceptional individuals from solicitors to barristers, legal executives to patent attorney and in-house lawyers that have made an exceptional contribution to the profession.
After sifting through applications, our team chose three finalists to impress this year’s incredible judging panel…
Senior Associate Solicitor, Thursfields
After training and qualifying as a solicitor, Lauren has developed a successful law career specialising in insolvency. She joined Thursfields in 2013 to develop and grow the firm’s insolvency offering across the West Midlands. Having earned a strong reputation in her specialist field, Lauren helped her team achieve recognition in the 2016 edition of the Legal 500; was personally noted in the Legal 500 for her ‘good, solid, commercial advice’; and is a committee member for R3 (Association of Business Recovery Professionals) in the West Midlands. She is also a governor of Ark Kings Academy; a proud Stonewall Champion, and member of Thursfields’ equality and diversity committee.
Solicitor, Wright Hassall
Commercial Litigation Solicitor at Wright Hassall, Matthew specialises in Financial Services Litigation – advising companies and individuals on disputes with, amongst others, HMRC, financial services institutions and professional advisors. His experience spans disputes from multi-million pound commercial claims to professional negligence claims. An active member of Birmingham’s professional services community, Matthew is Chair of the Membership Committee and sits on the Leadership Team and Sales-Sub Committee for BPS Birmingham Future. He is also an advocate for the LGBT community in the legal profession, contributing to Wright Hassall’s equality programme and representing the firm to external LGBT organisations and networking groups.
Senior Associate, Trowers & Hamlin
Senior Associate in the Projects and Construction team at Trowers & Hamlins, Victoria acts as a trusted advisor to a host of local, national and international developers and contractors. Her works sees her involved in a number of high-profile developments across Birmingham, as well as growing the firm’s construction team and client base. Alongside her day job, she is also a trustee for Birmingham Citizen’s Advice Bureau; is a founding member of the SCL Astra committee – the junior division of the Society of Construction Law; is a member of the Birmingham Law Society Property & Development committee; is a mentor for BPS Birmingham Aspire as part of the Future Mentoring Academy; and has just completed the first BPS Birmingham Future Leadership Development Programme, in partnership with Aston Business School.
