A Busy Year for Birmingham Aspire
News Categories: aspire
It has been quite the year for Birmingham Aspire. As we all prepare for a well-deserved festive break, it is the perfect time to reflect on the achievement’s made throughout 2016.
2016 has been a big year for Aspire with our wonderful Co-Chairs, Ashleigh and Josh. Taking over from Amelia Ladbrook, Ashleigh and Josh have continued to implement the plans put in place by Amelia, and built on these to deliver some new and exciting initiatives. The first exciting change of the year was split into our two new committees; the Talent Committee led by Leah and the Advance Committee led by Emily. Of course, new committees means new committee members. We have had a number of new committee members join us and they have hit the ground running, putting on great events and creating effective programmes for members. There are still a couple of spots available on both committees for people who are keen to help coordinate events and further growth plans for 2017. To find out more, email email@example.com
The Birmingham Future Mentoring Academy (which is also open to Aspire Members) successfully paired mentees that are either in the early years of their career or still in education with suitable mentors to guide them through the next year, making sure that they are making the most of the opportunities that are on offer.
The Aspire Professional Development Programme kicked off in November with an informative webinar, discussing all things Birmingham. Our events calendar kicked off with Welcome to Birmingham, showcasing some of the city’s best bars and restaurants and the chance to network with 2016 BYPY winner, Abby Corfan. You’re hired bought together the city’s recruiters for speed networking and an introduction to Kizmi- Jade, our 2016 Graduate Apprentice!
The first ever Professional Services Week was delivered by BPS and the Aspire team, with fantastic feedback from the school involved. We managed to get 350 students from 25 schools, to visit 20 businesses in the city centre to participate in a number of soft skills sessions and tours.
2017 looks to be another exciting year for Aspire. BrumLife will be in its fifth year and is our biggest annual event which aims to show students and new professionals what’s so great about living and working in Birmingham. Watch this space for more information, it’s set to be a big one!
