Get on the Board - Apply now for cohort 8!
News Categories: futureleaders
More and more young people are setting up or getting involved with community and voluntary organisations but many of them don’t receive any development on how the board should behave or what their roles and responsibilities should be.
In Association with The Governance Forum, the Association of Corporate Governance Practitioners (ACGP) and various corporate sponsors, the aim of the Get On The Board programme is to develop young potential leaders understanding of Corporate Governance concepts and practice. This will enable them to act as Corporate Governance Practitioners and make valuable strategic contributions to the organisations that they serve. Specifically aimed at young professionals and students between the ages of 21 and 35, the aim of the programme is to teach these individuals about corporate governance and the importance of good governance within organisations.
This very successful, exclusive and fully funded programme has received national recognition and is now also accredited by Edinburgh Napier University who are now in their 4th cohort of the programme. Young Leaders have now also launched in the Middle East with PwC.
Alongside Get On The Board, other programmes within the series are On The Board, for sportsmen and women who are retiring from their professional sports careers and are looking at becoming board members and Lead The Board for senior executives at board level who are looking at up skilling ready for remunerated board appointments with larger corporations or moving from a voluntary board role into a paid board role. Information on all programmes can be accessed at effectiveboardmember.co.uk where you can find out dates, establish what the programme entails and see what some of the former graduates say. The programmes are always heavily oversubscribed so we encourage young leaders to get their application forms registered now to avoid disappointment.
Why This Programme?
As the expectation for boards to perform increases, and with the recent economic challenges experienced as a result of board failures, it has become pivotal to equip tomorrow’s board members with the tools and the skills to succeed. Added to this, there is a clear awareness of the importance of developing the younger generation, especially those from the underrepresented populations to encourage and prepare them to take up the responsibilities of managing and sitting on boards. Many of the graduates across the 3 key programmes are now sitting on various boards across the country and are really in great positions to be giving back to their communities by serving as an effective board member.
