BPS Birmingham Aspire Blog: Khumehra Mohammed, Graduate Apprentice 2015/16
News Categories: aspire
Being this year’s Graduate Apprentice has been a whirlwind. I am already in my second placement at DBK after spending an amazing four months at IDEX consulting and things have never been better.
During my first four months in recruitment I valued every minute, learning the ins and outs of what it takes to work in marketing and sales whilst also providing excellent service for our clients. Having never considered a career in recruitment, it was a great way to get a taster of working life in that field without the commitment, allowing me to change my initial conceptions of working in a recruitment environment.
Although at University I studied Law, never did I think I would get a chance to work in a project management or construction environment but surprisingly thanks to the Graduate Apprentice scheme I have a chance to explore a completely different sector at DBK. These past few weeks I have experienced a complete culture shock; looking at buildings and seeing them from start to completion has been inspiring, working with clients on their projects first hand and really contributing to the project management side of things.
So far I have had the most amazing few months of my life, it has allowed me to grow both professionally and personally. Last year I couldn’t contemplate the amazing fields I would encounter in my career and little did I know one of the best and brightest opportunities were around the corner.
Applications for the Graduate Apprentice have reopened and seriously as cliché as this may sound it is one of the best opportunities out there.
